This was just my brain at work on the concept of this previous deviation: [link]

Odd story about this: I was at Wal-Mart yesterday picking out socks for both my wife and I (we both needed em :P), when I pointed out to her that my 'Circa Unknown' logo and colors would look nice on socks lol. So after we got home I spent yesterday designing this for fun.

I first decided the colors that I felt would look nice on a product line of socks, then I Googled for an image of socks, traced a pair with vectors, then simplified the path and edited it to my liking (making it very different from the original image I used as a starting point).

I felt that since the color red wasn't used in the project so far, it should provide a nice backdrop to present the idea.

I decided on Helvetica (the most professional, clean, and unbias font I believe exists) for my title text, and decided to go with white to pull the design together.

I usually use drop shadows, bevels, or embossing with my text - but going for a clean corporate feel this time, I decided against it. I did make a faint glow around the text to give it some substance.

I was going for something I've never done here before, and my ultimate goal was to look very professional - like I was doing an actual job for a paying client - and to make it look like I actually belonged in the industry. So I tried to use white space well, draw the eye to the product, present it in a way as to make the product (and presentation) 'clean' and 'fresh' - no outside clutter, no messy aspects to anything - just product presentation.

I am very happy with the result. This is the most clean, professional, and corporate looking image I've ever produced. I was really trying to embrace the 'less is more' ideology - by spending approximately 6 hours on the project (from memory), yet achieving the ultimate outcome that there isn't much to this - nothing to distract the viewer's interest away from the product, nothing unnecessary, nothing the viewer should even notice save the product and the title.

--------------------------------------------------

Oddly enough, this piece has instilled a rather unexpected idea in my mind. 'Circa Unknown' was merely a concept for my pressence in the design industry, not one I was really satisfied with or likely to stick with, but during the creation of this image (just to see what I could create), I actually began to visualize similar concepts for shoes, shirts, hoodies, swimming trunks, wallets, towels, and even sunglasses - all of which have a similar 'clean/simple' style, and all of which I feel people may actually purchase and wear.

This lead me to the conclusion that maybe 'Circa Unknown' could be a clothing brand? And that maybe it was possible for me to port my digital media design into fashion design as well - which is an odd concept for me, as I have never considered the industry, and would only stumble into it on an 'accidentally' based whim.

So I'm actually considering making similar images to this one presenting other clothing product designs such as shoes, shirts, and hats - and possibly trying to take it to someone in the fasion design industry.

Any input here? Would you wear these socks? Is it crazy for a graphic designer to also branch into fasion design?

This is really well done :) I like subtle use of the lines or rays of light in the background.

Thank you sir :)

I used a faint white ellipse behind everything to add some 'illumination' - it was heavily feathered and had low transparency.
